A smashing record — Manhattan scored a new record in the luxury market last month with nearly $1.2 billion in contracts, up 6.2 percent from last year’s $1 billion, according to Olshan Realty. May brought in a total of 157 contracts of luxury sales of $4 million or more, with 27 of those contracts signed within the last week. With an increase of 12 more contracts than May 2014, it’s the highest number for the month since the realty firm starting tracking deals 10 years ago, reported The Real Deal. Last week, the biggest deal was a condo at 551 West 21stStreet in Chelsea that sold for $40 million.
