It’s been a busy year for openings; by the end of this year, red carpets will have been rolled out in 35 new hotels across the Big Apple. Others include the sleek flagship Park Hyatt opposite Carnegie Hall and the famed, fully refurbished 1906 The Knickerbocker at Times Square. 1 Hotel Central Park has just started welcoming guests on the Avenue of the Americas, while the British Firmdale group is on track to open the Whitby at 18 West 56th Street in the first half of 2016, a sibling for its popular Crosby Street Hotel in SoHo.
Heading south-east, the New York EDITION has just opened at Madison Square Park in an historic 41-storey clock tower in the Flatiron District, while Turkish elegance will meet east-side chic at the Marmara Park Avenue when it welcomes its first guests later this year. And that’s just mid to uptown. Downtown – south of about 14th Street – high-end properties like the Four Seasons’ new-build luxury hotel and residences tower in lower Manhattan are scheduled to open in mid 2016, continuing the gentrification of the area.
